In a corner of Tuscany on the Etruscan Coast, in the heart of Maremma, Livorno, the medieval village of Castagneto Carducci, stands on a hilltop overlooking the surrounding countryside and the sea.

With territory extending 142 square kilometres, at an altitude of 194m above sea level, the municipality enjoys a Mediterranean climate.

Along the coast giant pines, rooted in centuries, rise up and counter the frequent sea breezes. This preserves a micro-climate that promotes agriculture in 41% of this territory; and it is becoming the second largest source of local economy, thanks mainly to the production of oil and wine.

As you lift your gaze toward the rolling hills, it is impossible to remain unmoved by the intensity of the now totally abandoned woods, which are World Heritage Listed.

The Podere Castellaccio estate has been developed and operates in this setting. The property extends across the seaward side of Segalari Hill, and almost reaches the famous Bolgherese Road.
A great passion for nature was the sole motivation for this initiative. Since then, two generations have followed, but the passion and sensibility remain unchanged.

With these presuppositions the estate has grown and expanded its body corporate, which now extends for more than fifteen hectares and is subdivided into vineyards, olive groves, woods, and a small section intended for rearing horses.

The business plan is realised through wine and olive oil production. Acres of centuries-old olive groves and vineyards have now been restored and improved with new facilities, thanks to the newer generations who are making the company dynamic and open to new markets.

A vineyard with forty years of history is tangible proof of a tradition handed down over time.

Old varieties of Sangiovese, Ciliegiolo Foglia Tonda and Pugnitello, which had virtually disappeared from local winemaking, are now the object of careful recovery and enhancement in order to express their potential quality.

Our wines come from these principles, which combine history, tradition and an environment with a unique “terroir”.

while looking to the future.
